Yes, I felt the earthquake. Yes, it was kind of awesome in a weird and odd kind of way. (I'm a little odd myself, what can I say?!) Anyway, I guess it's neat to say I experienced something like that. I was in the main office when it happened, and everyone had to evacuate the building. We had to stay outside for about 45 minutes, which was ok because it was a beautiful day. Nothing gets people more excited and all nervous/curious than a natural disaster. Now, don't take that the wrong way...there was no damage in our area, and no injuries, but it's kind of funny to see everyone trying to contact their families or get on their cell phones to figure out what was going on, or post on twitter or facebook. (and here I am writing a blog post about it...I'm so lame!) However, in my own defense, I feel like this is something I should tell my unborn child someday. I'll tell her something like, "I was 7 months pregnant with you, and I survived an earthquake!" Ok, so maybe that's a little dramatic, but after all...I tend to exaggerate sometimes! :) (right, Jeff?!) Ok, back on track. We got to re-enter the building, and I had basketball practice as scheduled.
Ok, basketball. Phew. Let's just say it's going to be a long season. I think I might have said that last year, and then we ended up winning the championship. Well, I can pretty confidently say that a championship is probably not in our future. It's that bad. I only had 9 girls show up for tryouts. (what the heck?!) I wish I could have told 3 of them they were cut, but I can't very well cut 3 girls when I only have 9, so I swallowed my pride and decided if we can't be good at basketball, we'll at least be in really good shape....so I'm running the mess out of them! I'll keep you posted on the season.
Back to packing lunches. Boo. Tomorrow is the first day for the kids. For the past week while we just had work days Jeff and I would come home for lunch, or grab a bite out with co-workers, so I haven't had to pack- but that all changed tonight. One night down, 179 to go. (yikes! that's a scary way to look at it!)
Ok, so one more thing that I just have to share. Kristi will have the principal's daughter in her class this year! Talk about a compliment, and talk about pressure!! Of course she is SO hard on herself, and is truly not overly excited about it, but I think it's great and I know she is in Kristi's class because Kristi is seriously an outstanding teacher. So, say an extra prayer for her this year, because let's be honest... compliment or not, it's still a little scary!
Oh, and while you're at it, you can pray for Jeff and I too! The start of a new school year always makes me feel excited, and slightly sick to my stomach! I think I have some nice classes...but that's on paper, so we'll see once these rug rats show up tomorrow.
So long summer, can't wait until next year...
