dinner

We're back in Albion, and before my parents had to run out for a football game, my mom made Kristi, Jeff and I dinner. I was so excited because I haven't had a home cooked meal in several days, since we've been traveling. On the menu was fresh green beans, corn on the cob, salt potatoes and steak. We sat down, and Kristi and I looked kind of funny at the steak, but just went ahead and started eating. Kristi quickly voiced her opinion that she didn't like the steak, and she didn't want to eat any more of it. I quietly told her to shut up mind her manners, and eat, since mom spent money and time preparing this dinner.

Well, Kristi didn't care, and she stopped eating, Jeff on the other hand was already done, and I was trying to cut around all the fatty sections to eat some of the lean meat. Finally, Kristi asked my mom if she was upset that she wasn't going to eat the meat, and my mom gave in. She told Kristi she wasn't upset, because it wasn't beef....it was MOOSE! What?! I was shocked! We were all laughing so hard, and after that, Kristi and I really stopped eating! I must say, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't very tender or flavorful either. I thought she must have marinated the "beef" in something I've never had before, and that's where the odd taste came from. Boy, was I wrong!

So, incase you were wondering...she did not buy it, Peter's uncle went hunting in Canada, and came back with a moose, so Peter and Kadi shared some of their meat with my parents, and my mom knew my dad would never eat it knowing what it was, so she tricked us into eating it!

Not sure if eating moose was ever on my bucket list, but I guess now I can cross it off.
